Oral vitamin D3 is the treatment of choice in vitamin D deficiency
(defined as serum 25(OH)D <25 nmol/L) 1

  • ¬†Where rapid correction of vitamin D deficiency is required, a loading regimen of ~300,000 IU should be given in split doses either weekly or daily 1
  • Maintenance doses of 800-2000 IU daily (occasionally up to 4000 IU daily) can be given either daily or intermittently at a higher but equivalent dose 1
  • Adequate dietary calcium intake is important for optimal bone health 1
